TOMATOES

The fruit is spherical or oblong, it is edible, and when ripe it is juicy and has a bright red color. Its red color is due to the fact that it contains the pigment lycopene. Before ripening, the tomato is green in color.

There are greenhouse tomatoes (climbing) and outdoor tomatoes (semi-climbing and self-pruning). Climbing and semi-climbing plants need support which is done either with twine (horizontal wire greenhouse) or canes when it comes to outdoor cultivation. Self-pruning tomatoes do not need support because they blind their top by themselves and do not grow upwards.
